The big unanswered questions in science.

My current research aims to tackle some of the big unanswered questions in science — the abiogenic origin of life and its place in the universe, and the existence of an unknown deep earth rhythm. I continue to explore the deep oceans, contourites and turbidites.

Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher & Further Education, awarded in 2016 for excellence and innovation in energy research and teaching.

Past research projects on modern, ancient and subsurface sedimentary systems worldwide.

Supervision of 50 PhD students and over 80 Masters projects between 1982 and 2025.
